The airline BRA is a regional airline that flies to many destinations both within and outside Sweden with approximately 2 million travellers annually. They have won sustainability awards and are one of the few airlines growing and expanding its operations. We spoke with Lise-Lotte Sjöholm, HR Business Partner, and Ebba Lindholm, HR Generalist, about why whistleblowing is important to them and why they chose to work with Visslan for their new whistleblower system.
Why is corporate culture important to you and how do you work with it?
"Just like all companies, BRA is made up of its employees, and to be able to attract and retain competent and satisfied employees requires a corporate culture that is inclusive, welcoming and developmental", says Lise-Lotte.
Ebba continues: "It is our employees who ensure that we deliver the best experience to our customers and therefore it is important to create a strong sense of we - Together we are BRA [Swedish: ‘good’]!"
When asked why whistleblowing in particular is important to BRA, they explain that as an airline they already have a reporting culture to for example ensure flight safety, but that they of course want to enable reporting of other matters as well. “No company is perfect and everyone should strive to improve where possible. Therefore, encouraging and enabling our employees and other stakeholders to be able to blow the whistle when something is not right is extremely important to us", they say.
What problems did you face and how did Visslan help to solve them?
"BRA already had an internal reporting system in place for other types of reports and follow-up", says Lise-Lotte. She explains that it however did not allow full anonymity, which they felt was an important factor. Additionally, that system only allowed active employees to report. “To enable whistleblowing from more stakeholders, a different solution was therefore needed.”
The anonymity that Visslan enables and its ease of use were, according to Ebba, important reasons for why BRA chose Visslan's whistleblower tool. "Visslan offers a simple and user-friendly reporting system that enables full anonymity for the reporter. The tool could easily be shared both internally and externally so that several types of stakeholders could report through the system", says Ebba.
How was the process of implementing and launching Visslan?
Both Ebba and Lise-Lotte describe the process as painless where the implementation was smooth and they got started in a short time: "From the first contact to writing the contract and onboarding the system, our customer contact at Visslan has been a great help. We have received quick responses to calls and emails and the information we received has always been clear. The policies that could be used were clear and easy to translate into BRA's operations", they say.
